Intrigued ?
If you don’t know what you want and how, you will spend a lot of time and money to get where you want to be if you even get there. This rule applies to everything in life and in my opinion, marketing is a great example of this old truth.
.
When I was working with a marketing agency on our company website, I thought that I was very well prepared. I had text, pictures, inspirations, and testimonials for the website.
After my 1st call with them my feelings were truly hurt as the text was too long (rather academic than something that the client would like to read).
Another obstacle was a definition of my perfect client which was clear for me who it is, but when the copywriter showed me the 2nd draft, I realised that I might attract the wrong crowd of clients and this back-and-forth helped me define my target client.
I do all the case studies and blogs on my own, except for the help of an English native-speaker in case of spelling issues.
Let me tell you it’s a loooong process if you want to do it right it’s so worth it!
As I’ve learned so much from my marketing agency, videos, articles, and Seth Godin books I can show you what is worth focusing on, so you don’t have to waste your time.
I would like to share with you some beginner advice, which should help you in the first few years.
Effective marketers don’t begin with a solution, with the thing that makes them more clever than everyone else.Instead, we begin with a group we seek to serve, a problem they seek to solve , and a change they seek to make.Seth Godin from ” This is Marketing”
- Website and marketing agency.
If you can afford a marketing agency to do your website don’t hesitate to do so!
A copywriter will point out if you do something wrong, show you the right paths and your first impression will be as professional and convincing as possible. There are great agencies across the whole world, so don’t limit yourself to a geographic area. You can search nowadays for agencies across the whole world.
If you need a website just to test the ground, AI services could be a good idea (or you can skip this point all together from the beginning).
In such a case I would still ask for help from an experienced copywriter. Getting an outside opinion on what you think to be a good product or service is always a good idea.
- Email.
Domain and email are very affordable nowadays, and many of the providers do websites too. Others’ perception of you will be different when you write emails using your company domain.
In my experience, the probability of ending up in the spam folder is higher without using a domain.
- Beware of internet marketing shortcuts.
Online you can find an abundance of materials on how to land clients in 3sec and let me tell you, the majority of such titles are clickbaits just for marketing purposes.
I would lie to say that I haven’t learned anything from such videos, on the other hand this is not a marketing tool which would work for me.
You need to know what you want because without it you can watch plenty of videos, spend crazy money on marketers and this might or might not work for you.
Do you know who your client is?
Where they are?
How they search for services and goods that you can offer?
What’s their demography etc.?
If you know this, then you can pick a marketer who can take this data to a different level and help.
Books by Seth Godin opened my eyes on marketing, and his way aligns with my values, vision, outlook and what I am capable of doing.
Before I found him, I spent hours watching other people who were clearly knowledgeable, but there wasn’t a click.
Define what you want, what you need, and which market your client is on, and there are so many talented people ready to help.
- Funnel.
Creating a funnel is key, you will hear it absolutely every time.
Be strategic, not omnipresent as it takes a while to get clients and make a funnel work.
It’s like with trust and reputation; one post will not create it.
Different demographics will use different channels to be approached. TikTok is something that rather young people use, same as Facebook; so if that’s your demographic, then you have your answer.
If you target is more businesses, then LinkedIn, portals for investors, conferences, and trade fairs will be better for you.
Whatever you choose, stick to it for a while as you need to convince people to trust you, make them curious, and convince them to your solution and approach.
5 Strategy and story.
Your story needs to be unique for you to help your clients distinguish you from others.
The same services can be sold in a very different way. All of us have something unique in us and it’s worth to embrace it!
Strategy is fundamental, and without it you will be drifting around instead of aiming for your goal.
I highly recommend here 2 books of Seth Godin. One is called “All Marketers are Liars/ Tell Stories”, and it shows in a very descriptive way how people tell their stories to convince clients. Another one is “This is Strategy” which shows how to make better plans.
6 Patience and consistency.
Whatever method, funnel, story and group you choose it takes a while to attract people so consistency in posting, consistency in quality and patience is everything.
If you see after many months that you don’t have any views, comments, or meetings, then the strategy must be modified but if you change everything every few weeks you might ending up with a lot of time and money spent without any results.
